Certificate for OASIS Specialist-Clinical (COS-C) Exam

OASIS Answers offers three kinds of testing options for candidates taking the COS-C Exam:

The instructions and protocols for each are listed below.

Computer Based Test @ Testing Center

On the Day of the Examination

Report to the Test Center at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.

Identification

You must have Two Forms of Identification to present at the Test Center Check-in. Failure to provide appropriate identification at the time of the examination is considered a missed appointment and there will be no refund of your examination fee.

  1. At least one Government issued ID required. Acceptable forms of identification include: Driver's License, State identity card (non-driver license), Passport, Passport card, Military ID, Green Card, Alien registration, Permanent resident card, or National identification card. This ID must be current or unexpired and contain a photo and signature.
  2. The second form of identification must display your name and signature for signature verification. Employment or Student ID card, Social Security card or credit card are acceptable as secondary form of identification if they include your current name and signature.

Exam is Open Book: You may bring ANY paper-based OASIS reference materials into the examination, including, but not limited to CMS Core OASIS Documents, OASIS Guidance Manual, CMS OASIS Q&A’s, the Blueprint for OASIS Accuracy handout and an INSTANT OASIS Answers book.

Exam Restrictions

  • You will be provided with a pencil and one piece of scratch paper to use during the examination. You must return the scratch paper to the supervisor at the completion of testing.
  • No notes of any kind made during the exam may be removed from the Test Center.
  • No questions concerning the content of the examination may be asked during the examination.
  • Eating, drinking or smoking will not be permitted in the Test Center.
  • You may take a restroom break as needed, but you will not be allowed additional time to make up for time lost during breaks.

Test Center Regulations

  • No personal items, valuables or weapons should be brought to the Test Center. Only wallets and keys are permitted. You will be provided a soft locker to store your wallet and/or keys with you in the testing room.
  • No cameras, tape recorders, pagers or cellular/smart phones are allowed in the testing room.
  • Persons not scheduled to take a test are not permitted to wait in the testing center or surrounding common areas.
  • No conversing or any other form of communication among candidates is permitted once you enter the examination area.

Practice Test

Prior to attempting the examination, you will be given the opportunity to practice taking a short practice examination on the computer. The time you use for this practice examination is NOT counted as part of your examination time or score.

 

Remote Online Test @ Home 

On the Day of the Examination

Please ensure your testing environment is clear, quiet and free from distractions. Plan to be seated in front of your computer 30 minutes prior to the exam appointment time in order to have time to complete the pre-exam requirements. Your computer must have web camera, speakers, microphone and Google Chrome Browser. A stable Internet Connection is required. Using the computer you will test on, please verify computer compatibility via the check at this link: https://home.psiexams.com/static/#/bcheck

It is best to conduct a system compatibility check at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled exam.

Identification

You must have Two Forms of Identification to present to the remote Proctor prior to exam launch. If there is any doubt surrounding your identity, you will be turned away from the test and will forfeit your exam fees.

  1. At least one Government issued ID required. Acceptable forms of identification include: Driver's License, State identity card (non-driver license), Passport, Passport card, Green Card, Alien registration, Permanent resident card, or National identification card. This ID must be current or unexpired and contain a photo and signature. A Military ID will not be accepted for the Remote Online exam.
  2. The second form of identification must display your name and signature for signature verification. Employment or Student ID card, Social Security card or credit card are acceptable as secondary form of identification if they include your current name and signature.

Exam is Open Book: You may refer to ANY paper-based OASIS reference materials during the examination, including, but not limited to CMS Core OASIS Documents, OASIS Guidance Manual, CMS OASIS Q&A’s, the Blueprint for OASIS Accuracy handout and an INSTANT OASIS Answers book.

Exam Restrictions

  • The use of any writing device is PROHIBITED during the Remote Online exam duration. There is a comment space available on each question screen which can be used to make notes to determine an answer to the question or to make comments about the question.
  • You are prohibited from reproducing, communicating or transmitting any test content in any form for any purpose. This behavior will result in the disqualification of examination results, will be reported to your Licensing Authority/Sponsor and may lead to legal action.
  • No questions concerning the content of the examination may be asked during the examination.
  • Cellular/Smart phones must be turned off and may not be accessible during the exam.
  • Beverages are permitted in the testing environment at your own risk. No additional time is given to clean up a spill. 
  • You are allowed ONE restroom break during the exam and must return within 10 minutes, but you will not be allowed additional time to make up for the time lost during this break. If you leave the testing environment second time, your exam will be canceled.
  • Other than the ONE restroom break referenced above, you may not exit the camera view or use your cell phone or other electronic devices except the computer in use for taking the exam.

Exam Regulations

  • You will be required to perform an additional System Compatibility Check with PSI in the 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the test and must ensure that all your computer system items are satisfactory before being able to proceed.
  • You will communicate with the remote proctor using the in exam chat tool.
  • You will be required to disconnect any additional monitors from your computer prior to testing.
  • You will be asked to scan the room from which you are testing in prior to launching your exam.
  • You will be required to download the Secure Browser to take the exam.
  • You must comply with Proctor Instructions and conduct yourself in a professional and courteous manner.

Practice Test

Prior to attempting the examination, you will be given the opportunity to take a short practice examination on the computer to become familiar with the navigation features. The time you use for this practice examination is NOT counted as part of your examination time or score.

Please allow yourself the full 30 minutes to complete the pre-exam requirements.The time spent to verify the System Compatibility, install a Secure Browser and make any additional computer setting adjustments as needed by PSI, ID verification and your practice test is EXCLUDED from the 2.5 hours allowed for the exam.

Troubleshooting – If the secure browser becomes unresponsive at any point during the exam, close the application via File>Exit or the Task Manager >Force Quit.  You can then relaunch the browser from the desktop icon or from the executable file in your Downloads folder.  

You will be asked to re-identify yourself before proceeding with the exam. If you encounter technical issues and are unable to log back into your exam, please contact the Technical Support Team at (844) 267-1017

If you schedule a Remote Online Test @ Home, you will receive a handbook for the day of the exam expectations and exam launch instructions via email. You must print those instructions to have with you during the remote online testing experience.

 

Paper and Pencil Test @ Workshop Location

On the Day of the Examination

Plan to arrive at the exam location no later than 30 minutes prior to the exam start time. You must be checked in and seated for exam instructions 15 minutes before the exam start time.
