The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently posted NEW resources for the Hospice Outcomes and Patient Evaluation (HOPE). HOPE is a standardized data collection tool that will be implemented in all Medicare-certified hospices nationally October 1, 2025, in less than 4 months!
As hospices are working on their HOPE implementation and training plans, it’s imperative that hospices are using the most recent HOPE items and HOPE Guidance Manual. Check your HOPE resources and be sure that you are using version 1.01 of the HOPE items and version 1.01 of the HOPE Guidance Manual.
Why Upgrading to HOPE Version 1.01 Matters
- Regulatory Compliance: Version 1.01 items and the HOPE Guidance Manual v1.01 are the only current, CMS-approved resources.
- Archived v1.0: Older HOPE v1.0 files have been retired and moved to the HQRP archive.
- Risk Mitigation: Using outdated versions creates coding errors, audit exposure, and reporting delays.
Version 1.01 of these most recent documents are available on the HOPE page of the HQRP website, in the downloads section at the bottom of the page.
If you’re feeling the pressure of HOPE implementation right around the corner, consider using the OASIS Answers two-part recorded webinar, HOPE in Action: Turning Memorable Care into Measurable Outcomes to get up to speed with HOPE and ready for the October 1, 2025 implementation.
Each part is 1-hour in length with the signature OASIS Answers style that “simplifies the complex” by providing key HOPE coding and time point guidance paired with memorable patient scenarios, making HOPE training unforgettable, painless, and even fun!
