Part 6 – The Last 5 Domains of the Exam

Have you been considering sitting for the COS-C Exam but aren’t sure how to begin preparing or what material would be helpful? This blog series discusses who should consider sitting for the exam, what materials you might find helpful to have at hand when studying and sitting for the exam, some tips for preparing for the exam, and provides a breakdown of the COS-C Exam.

The questions in the COS-C Exam come from 10 different domains. In this blog we will review the last five domains.

Cognition & Mood Disorders
This Domain tests your mastery of OASIS item-specific guidance and scoring conventions for items collecting data on patient mood, and cognitive and behavioral status. You may be presented with scenarios related to C0200-C0500 – BIMS, D0150 – Patient Mood Interview, and the M1700 items.
ADLS/iADLS
This covers questions related to the M1800 functional items. You will want to make sure you have a good understanding of the M1800 specific conventions as well as items specific scoring considerations.
Functional Activities
This Domain tests your knowledge of OASIS items-specific guidance and scoring conventions from Section GG of the OASIS.
Medications & Special Treatments
This Domain tests your knowledge related to OASIS items related to patient medications, vaccinations, and special treatments and procedures. Questions may be related to coding for items such as N0415 – High-Risk Drug Classes, O0110 – Special treatments, Procedures and Programs, and M2020 – Management of Oral Medications.
ED Use, Inpatient Transfer & Discharge
This Domain includes guidance and scoring conventions related to items that collect data on patient emergent care, inpatient admission, discharges and transfer of health information.
